Girls Tennis: Northern Burlington wins BCSL Open crown


Northern Burlington had finalists at all five flights and won four of them at the Burlington County Scholastic League Tournament last week.

The tournament was held at Veterans Park in Hamilton. Northern Burlington won at second and third singles and both doubles.

In the second singles final, Anisha Sood defeated Sana Toproowski of Burlington Township, 6-3, 6-3. At third singles, Aalyia Razak topped Cinnaminson’s Nicole Jones, 6-1, 6-2.

The first doubles pair of Ankita Narayan and Trisha Veloor had the toughest championship match as they pulled through 2-6, 6-4, (10-6) against Delran’s Vidhi Patel and Vishwa Patel, while second doubles Savannah Arce and Anjali Parikh recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win against Alicia Sperry and Rachel Bondoc of Burlington Township.

Pemberton was able muster the first singles title as Siani Brown came back to beat Northern Burlington’s Pihu Batra, 2-6, 6-1, (10-6).

A year ago, Pemberton won four flight finals including Brown, who won at second singles.

Sood and Anjali Parikh each took first place respectively after making the championship matches last season.

Northern Burlington went 7-3 in 2023 including 5-0 in the BCSL. It beat Freehold Borough at home in the first round of the Central Jersey, Group 3 state tournament.
