‘Good Trouble’ Ending Provides Closure and Optimism for the Future

Good Trouble, the beloved freeform comedy about love, activism, and life in Los Angeles, came to a tragic end after four seasons.

The series finale, Moving On Up, was a beautiful finish that provided both closure and a glimpse into the characters’ promising futures.

Fans were left on edge after a dramatic season finale cliffhanger featuring a cult, a vehicle chase, and a shocking shooting.

Fortunately, the new episode offered some comfort. Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) heroically interfered in a physical conflict between Joaquin (Josh Peck) and Silas, the cult leader (Matt Hamilton). While the crisis worsened, Jenna (Erin Moriarty) arrived just in time to apprehend Silas, sending him to jail and breaking the cult’s control on Joaquin.

The episode focused largely on the Coterie residents, who are the show’s central family. The concept of progress was a major theme. Callie (Maia Mitchell) received good news regarding her legal profession, but Jude (Micah Stock) was faced with a crucial life decision. Fortunately, a lovely family dinner brought everyone together to celebrate their journey and share their future goals.

Joaquin, still traumatized by his experience with the cult, stayed unmarried but found peace in telling his story through impactful essays. Meanwhile, Mariana, motivated by her brush with peril, resolved to seek a career that would allow her to make a constructive social contribution.

While certain stories were resolved, the conclusion left the door open for future possibilities. The characters’ hopes and aspirations hinted at exciting new chapters to come, even if they wouldn’t play out on screen for spectators anymore.

In a recent interview, Good Trouble executive producer Joanna Johnson expressed sorrow over the show’s cancellation but also noting the show’s long-term impact.

She reassured audiences that the series ending would be satisfactory while also leaving them optimistic about the Coterie members’ future. Based on encouraging fan reactions, it appears that “Good Trouble” provided a finale that lived up to its cheerful reputation.
