NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WJAR) — Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey was in New Bedford Wednesday to discuss youth mental health services.
Child and Family Services New Bedford is one of 30 centers in the state that offers 24/7 mental health crisis care.
According to officials, people can walk in and appointments are not needed.
Healey said that sites like these are crucial to the state’s healthcare system.
“Your work has helped us reduce boarding in emergency rooms in hospitals for mental health by 63% in one year,” she said at an event Wednesday morning.
The governor’s budget proposal includes a $17 million to expand behavioral health treatment.
