PARKERSBURG — A Grammy-winning singer will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Smoot Theatre in Parkersburg.

Melissa Manchester is the last show in the Smoot’s 2024-25 Performing Arts Series that opened with a Cher lookalike artist. Other performers in the series included Shades of Buble, singer Judy Carmichael and “Classic Stones Live.”

Tickets for the Manchester show are $45 and can be purchased online at SmootTheatre.com.

Manchester received her first Grammy nomination for Best Pop Female Vocal Performance in 1979 for “Don’t’ Cry Out Loud,” winning the Grammy in that category four years later for “You Should Hear How She Talks About You.” Her hits include “Midnight Blue.”

In 1980, Manchester became the first recording artist in the history of the Academy Awards to have two nominated movie themes in a single year, “Through the Eyes of Love” from “Ice Castles” and “I’ll Never Say Goodbye” from “The Promise.” She performed both live on the Oscar telecast.

Barbra Streisand, Roberta Flack, Dusty Springfield, Alison Krauss and Kenny Loggins, among others, have recorded her songs.
