GRANTS PASS, Ore. — Grants Pass High School Performing Arts program is inviting Indigenous peoples to “dress to represent” their tribes this weekend.
It says everyone is welcome to a day of “rich community, education, ART and celebration to honor Native American Heritage Month in November,” starting 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 11, at 830 Northeast Ninth Street in Grants Pass.
It says the program includes:
- Takelma elders open our day with prayer and words,
- All-female drum The Salmon Singers
- Native-made movies,
- An Allyship 101 training offered by Live Oak consulting
- Activities and workshops for Native community
- Dinner made by Indigenous kitchen, Nourish
- Spoken Word Poetry with acclaimed two-spirit poet Shuína Skó
- Local Youth Art
- Art, Culture and Dance presentations into the evening!
It welcomes all Indigenous, Native and extended diverse community to learn more about Takelma and inter-tribal Indigenous history, present day and future, building relationships “for healing bonds and Native allyship in our local community.”
The program requires $20 tickets which include dinner. U.S. Military Veterans, Native students and families have free admission. All proceeds benefit local Native youth and students.
