A Kentucky sheriff’s deputy saved a driver from a burning car in Grayson County. On Tuesday, Grayson County Sheriff’s Deputy Thomas Lane responded to the call of a car fire at the intersection of Shrewsbury and Schoolhouse roads. Police said the car had flames coming out of the engine. That’s when a nearby bystander told police that there was still someone in the car. It is unknown if the driver was trapped in the car, but when Lane ran to the car and opened the door the driver appeared to be in a “dazed state of mind,” said police. Lane then pulled the driver out of the car, with the help of a bystander. “With no regard for his own safety, Dep. Lane acted courageously immediately upon his arrival at the scene. It appeared from the video that the man refused to exit the burning car when coaxed by the citizens,” said Sheriff Norman Chaffins. “Minutes matter when our police respond to these types of calls. Had Dep. Lane arrived or hesitated a couple of minutes later than what he did, the next car arriving on scene would probably have been the County Coroner! We are truly blessed to have Thomas serving the community in which he was raised!”The driver was treated for minor injuries, but no major injuries were reported from the fire. The collision is still under investigation by the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office.
