GOOP SALUTE: The Council of Fashion Designers of America has revealed that Gwyneth Paltrow will pick up the Innovation Award presented by Amazon Fashion at the upcoming CFDA Awards.
The entrepreneurial Oscar-winner’s Goop lifestyle brand cinched the honor for being “a visionary, leading with technology and innovation in branding, marketing, social media, customer engagement, performance, or product development, that helps shape the way customers shop today.”
The company founder and chief executive officer will be sure to up the celebrity quota at the Nov. 6 awards in New York City at the American Museum of Natural History.
Paltrow has other reasons to celebrate, too. Her self-made company marked its 15-year anniversary this fall. Specializing in top-shelf products, tips and authoritative voices in the beauty, wellness, fashion and food sectors, the platform blends commerce, content, practical advice and more for its global consumer base.
The news comes less than a week after Paltrow launched a mass market beauty and wellness brand called Goop.clean.goop on Amazon and via Target. Goop will also bring back its popular wellness summit on Nov. 11 to California with a Weekender Pass running for $3,500 per person.
Revealing the honor, the CFDA’s CEO Steven Kolb said in a statement that Paltrow ”has brought a new dimension to the lifestyle industry, making a case for vision and innovation in retail.” As for who will hand over the award to Paltrow at the annual gala, a CFDA spokesperson said Tuesday that announcement has not yet been made.
Referring to Goop celebrating “15 years of being irreplaceable provocateurs for good,” Paltrow said in a statement that she can’t imagine a better way “to honor this milestone — a heartfelt one for me personally and professionally — than this incredible award from Amazon Fashion and the CFDA, an organization whose work and influence I’ve long admired.”
Paltrow has long been a familiar face on the fashion scene, as a friend of Stella McCartney’s and front-row attendee at such shows as Valentino and Calvin Klein, among others. With business being her primary professional focus, Paltrow recently told Drew Barrymore, during a talk show appearance, that retirement is not on the immediate horizon. Paltrow said at that time, “I don’t think about retiring soon, but I am excited for the next chapter of my life. At whatever point it comes, where I’m in the garden and maybe I have a couple of grandkids, maybe I’m not working so hard. I’m sort of exploring what it is to be a powerful old lady.”
