ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Some in our area are now a little closer to finishing off their holiday shopping lists early thanks to the 96th annual Holiday Greens Market, which just wrapped up at 1000 Hendersonville Road in Asheville.
The two-day market was hosted Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 2-3, by the French Broad River Garden Club and has been a tradition in Western North Carolina for nearly 100 years. Proceeds from the Holiday Greens Market support local scholarships in horticulture and conservation.
This year, more than 35 regional vendors turned out to sell all kinds of hand-crafted items that are perfect not only for gift-giving but also home décor. Some of those available items included fresh greens, letterpress greeting cards, crafted chocolate, jewelry, paintings, table arrangements, ornaments, baked goods, soaps, handcrafted nutcrackers — and so much more.

All the greens used in the event were harvested with a focus on environmental conservation.
“The beauty of it is that I can sell my product — I’m ‘Farm Girl Foodie’ — and I can sell my baked pecans, and people love them this time of year,” said Lynne Froeba, vendor. “But the cause is phenomenal, and these colleges here have come to rely on these scholarships. It’s a great cause and we love doing it, and people love coming out here; it’s a beautiful venue.”
Anyone who missed this year’s market can check out the club’s springtime Annual Plant Sale scheduled for April 20, 2024.
