Harahan Music Festival coming up June 1 to benefit St. Rita food pantry

The fourth annual Harahan Music Festival will be held June 1 at two locations — the Harahan Playground, 6601 10th St., and The Kamp, 2317 Hickory Ave.

At the playground, The Sharpened Spurs will play at noon, followed by the Lynn Drury Band at 1:45 p.m.

At 3:15 p.m., The Shawan Rice Bank will perform, followed by the T. Marie and Bayou Juju at 5 p.m.

Admission to the playground is free.

An after-party will be held just down the street at The Kamp, with Amanda Shaw and the Cute Guys performing at 7:30 p.m. followed by Dave Hickey at 9 p.m.

Admission is $10.

Those attending one or both events are asked to bring five to 10 food donations for the St. Rita Food Pantry in Harahan, the beneficiary of the event.

“Last year, the festival was held at Zeringue Park and attendance exceeded 500 people,” said Serge Villanova, the festival’s organizer. “This year at our new location of Harahan Playground, we hope to have over 1,000 people.”

Villanova added that “more than 5,000 items of water and nonperishable food was raised for the St. Rita Food Pantry.”
