Celebrity Big Brother star Gary Goldsmith could use his moment in the spotlight on the ITV reality show to speak out publicly against Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who left the royal family as working royals in 2020, have been known to have tension with Prince William and Kate Middleton, Gary’s niece. As a result, it’s thought that the ‘proud’ uncle could speak out against the Duke and Duchess as he defends his niece, despite being warned by Kate’s parents Carole and Micheal prior to him appearing.
Gary is the younger brother of Carole Middleton and uncle to Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, Pippa and James. He is the son of a painter and decorator from West London and grandson of a miner from a pit village in Durham. He made his appearance into the Big Brother house on Monday (4 March) alongside celebrities like Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh, despite his family not being happy about his public appearance.

An inside source told The Sun: “Gary said he’s been read the riot act by Kate’s mum Carole and her dad Michael. They aren’t happy he’s going into Celebrity Big Brother. It is infuriating for them, Kate doesn’t need this stress.”
The source also added that Gary could potentially let rip on Harry and Meghan after the known tension between Meghan and Kate.
Those close to Gary have insisted if he does discuss his royal connection in the house, it will only be to speak proudly of his niece and the royal family. Despite being hailed as the ‘black sheep’ of the Middleton family, he was still featured at Kate’s 2011 wedding to Prince William as well as her sister Pippa’s marriage to billionaire James Matthews six years later. A source described how proud of his family Gary is and how he “wouldn’t do anything to embarrass Kate or William, who he thinks a lot of”.
Gary’s appearance on the ITV reality show comes after Kate has been missing from the spotlight and not been seen alongside her husband Prince William or the rest of the royal family for a few weeks. The Princess of Wales has not been seen publicly since undergoing “planned major abdominal surgery” last month, which took place at the London Clinic on January 16.

In a new statement last week, a royal spokesperson said: “Kensington Palace made it clear in January the timelines of the Princess’s recovery and we’d only be providing significant updates. That guidance stands.” The spokesperson reiterated the princess is “doing well.” They have still said nothing more about what specific medical procedure she has had, leading to lots of rumours. Kensington Palace previously said the surgery was successful and did not say anything on her diagnosis or prognosis, other than that her condition was “not cancerous.”
In a statement released the day after Kate’s operation Kensington Palace said: “The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for 10 to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.
“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private. Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share.”
