Hattiesburg’s 6th Street District hosts performing arts, Valentine’s events for Black History Month

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) – Black History Month activities continued Saturday in Hattiesburg’s Sixth Street Museum District.

The historic Eureka School hosted a performing arts showcase, featuring dance, drama and spoken word performances.

That was followed by a “Valentines for Veterans” art event at the nearby African-American Military History Museum.

Visitors were invited to make special Valentines for servicemen and women.

The valentines will be displayed at the museum beginning Wednesday, Valentine’s Day.

“If they want to pick a male soldier or a female soldier, they can create an art piece that incorporates them, and then, also, they can make a Valentine’s Card using creativity,” said Vanessa Molden, operations and education supervisor for the African-American Military History Museum.

“We’re using with the theme being African-Americans and the Arts, and that covers Afro-futurism. A lot of the colors that are being used in the art work are those colors, those vibrant colors.”

The “Valentines for Veterans” art showcase will be on exhibit through March 2.
