VICTORIA, Texas – The Victoria County Health Department, along with area hospitals and other state agencies, conducted the health survey earlier this year. They wanted to gather information from community members about their health habits, as well as issues they face accessing healthcare and developing a healthier lifestyle.
Health department officials say the answers were eye-opening.
“The inactivity level was surprising to us, especially the number of people who felt they didn’t have access to physical activity equipment or activities, such as classes,” said Ashley Cano, with the Victoria County Health Department.
The lack of available transportation was also noted as a barrier preventing some residents from developing a healthier lifestyle.
The health assessment survey is conducted every five years.
