Health Matters: Mental health coping skills


May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and University Medical Center Northport Clinical Psychologist Dr. John Burkhardt said it’s still imperative that we bring attention to it.

“I think now we’re just starting to get to a point where we actually start to talk about it a little bit more openly, which is really the whole idea of it, because that’s how people get care and treatment is if they if people know,” Burkhardt said.

Some coping skills include taking time for yourself with endeavors like meditation or journaling. If that sounds a little too complicated, you can try gratitude journaling, which is as simple as writing down the things you’re thankful for.
