High school basketball rankings: Long Island Lutheran No. 1 in first regular season MaxPreps Top 25

The biggest climber in this week’s rankings is Hoover (Ala.), which jumps into the MaxPreps Top 25 at No. 16 after capturing the Kevin Brown Tournament of Champions Washington Invitational title over the holiday weekend.

Ten ranked teams have yet to play a game this season but nine of those squads tip off this week.

Begin the season with a showdown against National Top 10 No. 10 Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) on Thursday at the Marshall County Hoopfest.

Split a pair of showdowns against teams ranked in the National Top 10 as the Explorers escaped with a come-from-behind victory over No. 3 Prolific Prep (Napa, Calif.) 81-78 in overtime before losing to No. 8 Wasatch Academy (Mt. Pleasant, Utah) 75-73. Reigning National Player of the Year Cameron Boozer erupted for a career-high 40 points in a victory over McEachern (Powder Springs, Ga.).

Captured the Kevin Brown Tournament of Champions Washington Invitational title with a 59-42 victory over Gray Collegiate Academy (West Columbia, S.C.) in the title game paced by 28 points and nine rebounds from junior guard Salim London and 20 points and 22 rebounds from junior center Dewayne Brown.

Notched a 79-58 victory over Carmel Christian (Matthews, N.C.) at Phenom Lakesgiving paced by 21 points and 11 assists from senior guard Chase Daniel and 19 points and 14 rebounds from senior wing D.J. Kent.

The Tigers have established themselves as a team to watch in the Lone Star State after knocking off top 100 opponents Duncanville (Texas) 90-65 and Millennium (Goodyear, Ariz.) 82-69. Three-star Villanova signee Josiah Moseley has been the catalyst, averaging 23 points and eight rebounds per game.

Picked up a pair of lopsided wins to capture the Leroy Holden Classic title. Five-star Duke signee Isaiah Evans averaged 25.5 points per contest and scored 30 points int he title game.
