High school girls basketball rankings: Long Island Lutheran starts at No. 1 in Preseason MaxPreps Top 25

The 2023-24 high school girls basketball season is ready for tip-off and today we unveil the Preseason MaxPreps Top 25 rankings. A handful of states have hit the hardwood this week with action heating up over the next month.

In addition to the MaxPreps Top 25, we will be dropping our All-America Teams as well as our look at the best player and best team in each state.

Beginning the season at No. 1 is Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, N.Y.). The Crusaders return every piece of a squad that went 22-3 last season and finished No. 2 in the rankings after a runner-up finish at the GEICO Nationals.
Head coach Christina Raiti’s squad is led by a talented trio of seniors including center Kate Koval, who recently committed to Notre Dame, Michigan commit Syla Swords and point guard Kayleigh Heckel. Swords’ younger sister, Savannah Swords, returns for her sophomore season after opening eyes as a freshman. A healthy Shy Hawkins provides glue for the Crusaders, who have compiled an aggressive national slate.
Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.), last year’s MaxPreps National Champion, lost a ton of talent to graduation along with coach Special Jennings, but Matthew Shewmake steps in for the Eagles and reloads with transfer Jaloni Cambridge, the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2025.
