HYDE PARK, N.Y. — Kingston High’s girls basketball team outscored Roosevelt 24-1 in the third quarter to turn a close game into a 58-38 rout in a non-league contest on Monday.
The Tigers (12-2) won their sixth straight on the year.
Kingston trailed 21-20 at the half but turned up the defense and started sharing the ball more in the second half to run away from the Presidents.
“A lot of sloppy play and not making the extra pass contributed to the slow start,” Kingston coach Steve Garner said.
Senior guard Diamond Banks scored 12 of her team-high 17 points in the second half for the Tigers. Senior guard Asia Lebon scored 12 of her 15 points in the second half and junior guard Ava Scaturro added 11 points for Kingston.
Lillyana Parise of Roosevelt led all scorers with 20 points.
Kingston travels to Monroe-Woodbury on Tuesday for an Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 1 game.
Saugerties 61, New Paltz 30
At New Paltz, Natalie Tucker, Samantha Graham and Sonia Tchuinte all had 10 points to lead the visiting Sawyers to victory.
Beth Morales had 10 points and six steals and Cadence O’Dell added six points for the host Huguenots.
