Hiker dies near Rainbow Falls in Keene, New York


A hiker from Queens died while visiting Rainbow Falls in Keene last week, according to the New York Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers.Officials said the person was a 49-year-old from Astoria but did not provide further identifying information.Troopers from Ray Brook Dispatch received a notification from a beacon on Sawteeth Mountain that CPR was in progress for a hiker near Rainbow Falls on the morning of Saturday, Nov. 25 and sent a Forest Ranger to investigate.When the ranger arrived on the scene, the hiker’s guide had already begun administering CPR, with a passing EMT continuing to provide aid.However, after an hour, responders were unable to resuscitate the person. The victim was brought to the Essex County Coroner to determine the cause and manner of death.
