Hilary Farr is updating her Toronto home—and the jury’s out on if she’ll be loving or listing it. In a video on Instagram, the HGTV star shared she’s revamping her 21-year-old kitchen and teased the reasoning behind the project.
Farr started the video by showcasing how well her kitchen has held up after more than two decades of wear and tear. “It still functions, and it still looks good,” she said.
But upon a closer observation, Farr said the kitchen needs some TLC. She explained, “My walls need painting. My light fixtures need upgrading. My trim needs to be fixed up, and these are all of the things I have to do after 21 years.”
Doing all of that doesn’t come so easily, even for a professional. She continued: “If you want to paint, you have to take every single piece of artwork off the walls. If you want to do floors, everything has to come off the floors. And now, it’s turning into, really, an actual renovation, which is not how I was planning things. But I’m getting excited ‘cause I love the idea of refreshing this house.”
But there’s a dilemma. Farr asked viewers, “Do I renovate to love it, or do I renovate to list it? Haha, I know. I haven’t made up my mind yet, but I hate this chaos! Look at it!”
Naturally, fans were compelled to give their opinions in the comments. “If you end up listing it, that would be the biggest plot twist ever,” one person wrote. “Your kitchen is amazing!”
Others are hoping she lists, so they have a shot at buying her place. Someone wrote, “Are you really going to make me say it? Of course you design to List It! You know where to reach me ;).”
Plenty of folks were team Love It. “Well with your eye for design, we know it will be loved and not listed,” one fan wrote.
Someone else added, “Girl, if you’re designing it, you’re going to LOVE IT!”
“Renovate to love it,” another fan commented. “We need to live in the moment because we never know what’s gonna happen tomorrow. I’m sure whatever you do will be lovely and if the house needs to be sold, it will sell easily. Good luck with your renovation.”
Many people weren’t preoccupied with her loving or listing the home. Instead, they want to actually see her renovate it—perhaps in a special on HGTV. “Make a show out of it please,” one fan wrote, “We all miss your designs!”
While Farr hasn’t shared any more details on the kitchen renovation quite yet, she’s continued to pack up and prep for the process. She even posted a video featuring a brilliant packing tip for plates. The simple trick involves placing styrofoam plates in between each piece of china for easy, secure protection. Perhaps she’ll give us more genius packing tips if she does decide to list the house!
