Hill’s Pet Nutrition Establishes Tonganoxie, Kansas, Operations

Hill’s Pet Nutrition, a division of Colgate-Palmolive and a leader in science-led nutrition, established manufacturing operations in Tonganoxie, Kansas. The $450 million project is expected to create more than 100 jobs.

Located on more than 80 acres, the new 365,000-square-foot facility will increase the company’s production capacity for canned pet food and allow for the expansion of Hill’s Science Diet and Prescription Diet brands.

“Hill’s will utilize technology to work alongside Hill’s staff and a new state-of-the-art Mission Control Center to provide unprecedented visibility and monitoring through every aspect of pet food making from ingredient intake to final packaging,” said Chad Sharp, Director of Manufacturing for the Tonganoxie Plant. “The production process is an entirely “enclosed system” from ingredient mixing to cooking and container filling – designed to prevent food exposure to environmental contaminants.”

Hill’s Pet Nutrition worked closely with the Kansas Department of Commerce, the Leavenworth County Development Corporation, the City of Tonganoxie, Evergy and Kansas Gas Service.

“This investment by Hill’s Pet Nutrition is a testament to my administration’s success in creating a pro-business economy, including for the animal health industry,” noted Kansas Governor Laura Kelly. “I’m delighted our unique Animal Health Corridor continues to expand, growing our economy and supporting communities like Tonganoxie.”

Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Inc. (Hill’s), is an American pet food company that produces dog and cat foods.
