BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – After clinching a series win in yesterday’s contest, WKU Baseball fell to No. 8 Dallas Baptist 3-0 in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Nick Denes Field. The Hilltoppers fall to 21-11 (6-3 CUSA) while the Patriots improve to 25-6 (6-3 CUSA).
One swing made the difference as the only scoring play of the contest came from a three-run home run from the Patriots in the fourth inning.
Aside from the conceded long ball, WKU pitching was lights out once again, putting up eight scoreless frames. Freshman Drew Whalen got the start and retired the first nine batters he saw. The right-hander finished with one punchout in 4.0 innings of work while allowing three runs on three hits, all coming in the fourth inning.
The WKU bullpen threw 5.0 straight innings of shutout baseball in relief with five Hilltoppers completing an inning of work. Sophomore Dawson Hall made his first appearance in nearly a month and picked up right where he left off, retiring the side in only nine pitches in the fifth. Senior Lane Diuguid, junior Cole Heath, junior Cal Higgins, and graduate student Coby Moe followed Hall with the five of them combining to not allow a run on three hits and no walks.
The Tops registered just three hits on the day with juniors Ethan Lizama, Blake Cavill, and Austin Haller collecting one a piece. Lizama had the only extra-base hit of the afternoon, notching a double in the first inning.
