Hingham High School is thrilled to share that one of its own, senior Ben Cavallo-Smith, has been selected to represent the Massachusetts at the prestigious 16th Annual Jimmy Awards, taking place Monday, June 23, 2025, at Broadway’s Minskoff Theatre in New York City.
The Jimmy Awards, hailed as the most prestigious national showcase for high school musical theatre students, feature just 110 nominees selected from more than 150,000 student performers across 2,300 high schools nationwide. These young artists represent 50+ regional programs and take center stage in what many consider a launchpad for Broadway and national tour careers.
Ben earned this honor after being named Best Musical Theatre Male Actor in Massachusetts at the 2025 Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild (METG) Musical Theatre Awards. His standout performance as Orpheus in Hingham High School’s production of Hadestown under the brilliant stage direction of Drama Director Mo Fish and Music Director Christopher Landis played a significant role in his recognition.
“We’re incredibly proud of Ben and the entire Hingham High Drama team,” said Interim Principal John Buckey. “This recognition reflects the dedication, talent, and creativity of our students and educators, and the strength of our performing arts program at Hingham High.”

“Ben is an incredible artist – and I use that term wholeheartedly. He approaches the craft of acting with an inspiring balance of joy, commitment, rigor, and curiosity that sets him up for success not just on every show, but for a lifetime of success in theatre. He is also a warm and kind-hearted person who lifts up the whole rehearsal room in how he appreciates and honors the gifts of others. For half a dozen years, the Hingham Arts community has had a front row seat in witnessing and encouraging Ben’s growth in ability and confidence; now we are thrilled to share him with the world at the Jimmys! Break a leg, Ben!” said Drama Director Maureen Fish.
“Ben has a true gift in taking the lyrics to a song and mastering the emotion behind them. This award is a testament to Ben’s extraordinary vocal talents, coinciding with his acting abilities. Ben is a true team player. When he received word of winning the award, he was quick to thank his fellow actors in the production. Ben is graciously modest, and he is quite deserving of this recognition.” added Music Director Christopher Landis.
This achievement also brings well-deserved attention to the performing arts program at Hingham High School. With supportive arts booster groups, a wealth of community enrichment opportunities, and passionate educators, students are empowered to pursue extraordinary opportunities.
Ben will take the Broadway stage on June 23, but his journey began in Hingham, supported by a community that believes in the power of arts education. His success is a proud moment for our entire school community.
Congratulations and break a leg, Ben!
