Hit-and-run charge against Bryant University head basketball coach dropped

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — The case against Bryant University head basketball coach Jared Grasso in an alleged hit-and-run was dismissed.

North Smithfield police said Wednesday that Grasso’s insurance carrier “accepted all liability in this matter.”

The town filed a dismissal under criminal rule order in the case on Tuesday.

Grasso was facing a misdemeanor charge of failure to stop for accident resulting in damage to a vehicle.

He was accused of sideswiping a car on West Acres Interchange at Route 146 on the morning of Oct. 1.

The North Smithfield Police Department released body-worn camera footage which showed an officer speaking with Grasso at his house the next day.

Grasso denied hitting a car, and said visible side damage to his SUV happened while he was inside a local restaurant.

Bryant University placed Grasso on a leave of absence prior to the alleged incident, on Sept. 27.

ABC 6 News also reached out to Bryant University on the dismissal.
