JOPLIN, Mo.- As the holiday season kicks into high gear, millions of Americans are hitting the road to join family gatherings, creating a surge in holiday travel. According to Triple A, an estimated 49 million Americans are traveling more than 50 miles, and for many, it’s a time-honored tradition.

“I have changed my philosophy. I’m doing the speed limit and getting there and back by the safest we can,” says Gary, a traveler heading to Illinois.
