A number of events around the area will help lift your holiday spirits this weekend. From Silver Creek to Cassadaga, happenings to celebrate the coming arrival of Christmas are planned.

Some of the events include:

– Miracle on Main Street in Fredonia, which begins at 10 a.m. and includes a full agenda. Activities will take place at Fredonia Memorial American Legion Post 59, Fredonia First Methodist Church, Fredonia Family Church, Next Chapter Bookstore, The 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center, Darwin R. Barker Library and Fredonia Grange No. 1. There will be story time with Santa for youngsters at Barker Library, story time with Mrs. Claus at the Next Chapter Bookstore (12 Park Place). In addition, a free showing of “Polar Express” will occur at the Fredonia Opera House at 4 p.m.

– Light Up Cassadaga begins at 3:30 p.m. when Santa Claus will arrive via fire truck and will listen to children’s requests until 5 p.m. The Cassadaga Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will be offering free hot chocolate. There will be fire pits to help keep you warm or you can walk the short distance to the Cassadaga Library where children can choose a free book, do an activity and refreshments will be served until 6 p.m.

– The annual Christmas in the Park celebration, planned by the Kiwanis Club, from noon until 3 p.m., at the Village Square in Silver Creek.

These events, while special each year, also encourage us to support the businesses that help our economy – and contribute daily to our communities.
