The 2023 Holiday Home Tour is slated to take place from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Dec. 3.
Hosted by the Fremont County Community Concert Association, the event is a self-guided tour through distinctive and/or historical area homes decorated for the holidays and features a variety of Christmas styles.
Included in the tour are several affectionately named homes such as the Eclectic Historic Home, located at 507 Greenwood Ave., the Adorable Vintage Home, located at 802 Griffin Ave., the Exotic Christmas Decor Home, located at 298 Steinmeier Ave., the Gibson Mansion, located at 907 Greenwood Ave., and Berkshire Hathaway, located at 232 E. Main St., in Florence, and Beautiful Historic Home, located at 217 W. 3rd St. in Florence.
This year marks the return of the event, which went on hiatus in 2019, and it serves as FCCCA’s single fundraising effort for the year.
New to the roster this year is Becky and Eric Thompson’s Eclectic Historic Home. As active individuals in Cañon City (Eric is the chief executive director at the Fremont County Boys and Girls Club and Becky owns The White Leopard Home Decor & Boutique), the couple looks forward to showcasing their historic home during the tour.
Built in 1875 by the venerable Harding family, the home has seen Cañon City grow up around it and has served not only as a private residence but also as an old age home in the past, according to Becky.
The Thompsons purchased the home two years ago and dove into renovating the historic home. The previous owner, who had lived in the home for 25 years, had been a structural engineer and restored the home’s crumbling walls and foundation.
The Thompsons have restored homes for 25 years and completely redid the exterior with new paint and re-textured and painted the interior.
The 5,000 square foot home has six stunning bedrooms and five bathrooms, each decorated meticulously with, “modern and eclectic” Christmas items, said Becky.
“You want it to have character [as a historic house],” she continued. “I went in with more of a modern [twist] but I’m eclectic with my tastes.”
The home features distinctive, original red stained-glass windows which Becky decided would inform several rooms and their design choices and nearly each room features a personalized, unique Christmas tree. For example, her daughter’s room features a black, white, and pink aesthetic — complete with an appropriate tree — and her son’s room features unique geometric black and white holiday decorations.
“I like to keep things a little bit traditional but I also like funky and statement [pieces],” Becky said about the variety of items in her home.
As part of this year’s tour, complimentary transportation will be provided from Cañon City to Florence (and back to Cañon City) by The Golden Age shuttle. Donations would be accepted for the free service. Transportation will not be available for the Cañon City locations.
Tickets are $20/person or $30 for two people. Tickets are available in advance at Tailored West, Touch of Love, The White Leopard and Petal Pushers in Cañon City, and Treasures and the Baker’s Rack in Florence. Attendees may also purchase tickets on the day of the Tour at the various home locations.
