11th November 2024 – (Hong Kong) The Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre (vA!) is currently featuring the ceramics exhibition “vA! Residency – Reimagining the Ordinary,” showcasing the work of emerging artist Nutz Luk. The exhibition, which is free to the public, will remain on display until 24th February, 2025.

Dedicated to fostering artistic talent, the vA! invites emerging artists to engage in cross-disciplinary art experiments. This year, Luk was selected for a residency, during which she has created commissioned artworks, conducted public sharing sessions, and curated this exhibition.

Luk’s artistic practice revolves around the observation and reinterpretation of everyday life through ceramics. Her work begins with common objects, blending functionality with artistic expression. Inspired by the century-old vA! building, formerly known as Cassels Block, which served as married quarters for British military officers, Luk has transformed a variety of historical items—including a chandelier, vintage photo frames, and an old phonograph—into ceramic artworks. These pieces, displayed across the 3rd to 5th floors of the centre, prompt visitors to reflect on the objects’ past and present, encouraging them to envision alternative narratives of daily life.
