BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College received a donation from Houchens Food Group today in a new partnership to help stock the college’s Pathfinder Food Pantry.
The regional manager of Houchens Food Group, Jimmy Stewart, says the partnership was by accident when they were looking for training and met with Dr. Kim Myers, Dean of Workforce Solutions for SKYCTC.
“‘She said hey, we’ve got all these great programs here that we didn’t even know about right under our nose,’ and so we started exploring that option, and it’s developed into something great for us,” Stewart said.
The Pathfinder Food Pantry is located on all six of the colleges’ campuses and gives food-insecure students access to free meals on campus and groceries that students can take home with them.
According to Stewart, the first food donation consisted of canned goods, which the school requested from Houchens Food Group.
“Houchens surely has demonstrated that they know how to invest in their employees, and I think what they’re doing today fits right in with SKYCTC’s culture of caring and showing their support for the community,” Dr. Myers said
Any student of SKYCTC can access Pathfinder Food Pantry by providing staff with their student ID.
