HOUGHTON, Mich. (WLUC) – Dozens of student families at Houghton Elementary School got to take a look at their kids’ artistic creations Thursday evening.
This was part of the school’s annual Fine Arts Night. Students of all grade levels showed off their themed art creations to their families. For example, fourth graders drew art based on Egyptian papyrus, while third graders made paper sculpture masks.
“The kids are super excited to showcase their creativity,” Houghton Elementary Visual Arts Teacher Melissa Hronkin said. “There’s excellent enthusiasm and support from our families here for the arts.”
Families could also participate in a scavenger hunt and enjoy a performance from the school’s choir. Students could also create a fruit and veggie tray, a new offering this year. Hronkin notes that there are more than a thousand art pieces on display this year.
“Creating art is just a celebration and we just have to experience joy… along with our learning,” Hronkin said. “Because it makes it a wonderful place to go to school and to teach in an excellent community.”
Hronkin adds that the students worked on their art pieces throughout the school year and the art will remain on display for a time.
