If quiet luxury was reduced to an appropriate aphorism, it would be ‘money talks, wealth whispers’. Interestingly, the murmurs around quiet luxury are getting louder by the day. From fashion to furnishings, the runway to your room, it’s making its trendy presence felt—loud and clear.
So what is quiet luxury? It is about celebrating expensive, well crafted and high-on-quality design and products without the obvious logos and brand mentions.

Creating a quietly luxurious home decor involves a subtle and refined approach, focusing on understated elegance and sophisticated details. “From muted colour palettes to understated textures, it is tricky yet easy to infuse a sense of quiet luxury into your living space using textiles,” says Smita Joshi, vice-president (home textiles) and design expert at Nesterra, a premium home furnishings brand. “From sumptuous fabrics to exquisite patterns, the careful selection and placement of textiles can transform your living space into a haven of sophistication and refinement.”
Joshi shares five ways to bring home quiet luxury.
Soft luxurious fabrics
The foundation of an opulent home decor is the choice of fabrics. “Opt for soft rich fabrics, such as fine cotton, linen and its blends, to add a touch of indulgence to your space. These fabrics not only exude luxury but also offer a tactile experience that elevates the overall ambience,” she says, adding: “Subdued tones, such as soft greys, muted blues and gentle beiges, create a calming atmosphere that forms the basis of a quietly luxurious aesthetic. These colours provide a sophisticated backdrop for the textiles to shine.”
Timeless upholstery
Fabric with a soft and plush feel will add comfort to your calming space. “Consider using it as upholstery on furniture pieces like sofas or chairs. This not only enhances comfort but also brings an organic minimal aesthetic to the room,” says Joshi.
Make a statement with patterns
Joshi believes that incorporating subtle patterns adds interest without overwhelming the space. “Consider one-on-tone patterns or delicate, understated designs. This could be in the form of a lightly patterned rug, throw pillows with subtle prints, or even a textured wall covering. These subtle details contribute to the overall sense of quiet sophistication,” she says.
Drape drama
Custom-made drapery using high-quality fabrics will always stand out. “Floor-to-ceiling curtains in lush sheer materials not only create an illusion of height but also exude a sense of grandeur. Choose colours that complement your overall colour scheme while adding a touch of extravagance,” she adds.
Play with textures
“Mixing different textures adds visual interest and depth to your decor. This interplay of textures creates a sensory experience that contributes to the overall luxurious feel. Mix smooth fabrics like cotton with slightly textured ones such as linen,” says Joshi. She also shares that this layering effect not only adds visual interest but also enhances the tactile experience, creating a luxurious feel.
You can also add texture to the mix by incorporating metallic accents in a restrained manner. “Consider subtle gold or silver threads in textiles, like a throw blanket or accent pillows. These metallic details catch the light gently, adding a hint of glamour without being overly ostentatious,” says Joshi.
By incorporating these elements, you can create a space that not only looks but also feels indulgent, offering a haven of comfort and sophistication.
