MINNEAPOLIS — With the holidays starting to roll in, we know that sweet season is officially upon us.
Sweet treats like Halloween candy, Thanksgiving pie and Christmas cookies — along with other foods and habits — can do a number on your teeth.
But in a relatively new discovery, researchers learned the oral microbiome plays a powerful role not only in the health of your mouth, but it’s also linked with the health and strength of several other systems in your body, including your immune and cardiovascular systems.
Kowalski’s Markets nutritionist Sue Moores, RD, appeared on KARE 11 Saturday to explain how foods affect our teeth, what constitutes the microbiome in our mouth and ways to keep our mouths (and selves!) happy and healthy all year long.
