Hugh Grant Reveals Why He Despised the Character of Oompa-Loompa in Willy Wonka

Hugh Grant recently confessed why he despised his Oompa-Loompa character in the Willy Wonka film.

During the film’s press conference, the Paddington 2 star revealed that he disliked the motion-capture heavy filming procedure.

Grant stated that he had three cameras trained on him to show the movie’s animators his character’s final appearance.

“It was like a crown of thorns,” Grant told Metro, adding that it was “very uncomfortable.”

“I made a big fuss about it,” the Music And Lyrics star added. “I couldn’t have hated it any more.”

Grant stated that he was unsure whether he needed to perform with his entire body or simply his face.

“I never received a satisfactory answer,” the actor remarked.

Grant went on to say, “And frankly, what I did with my body was terrible, and it’s all been replaced with an animator.”

When asked if the dance moments were enjoyable, Grant answered, “It should be fun, but that was done by the animator.”

“It’s very confusing, with CGI now, you can’t tell what’s going on,” he said.

Grant joked during the conference, “I slightly hate [making films] but I have lots of children and need money,” before adding that it was “quite fun, messing around and trying new lines.”

Meanwhile, Wonka will be released in UK theaters on December 8 and in US theaters on December 15.
