Humbert is 1-0 against Giron. Their match was played in 2020 on an indoor hard-court surface in New York. Umbert had no trouble posting a victory, winning 6-1, 6-0. But that result came a little while ago. Giron certainly hasn’t played like a player that will be easy to brush aside these days.
The American was in the Tokyo semifinals last week. In fact, he was the player who gave the eventual champion, Ben Shelton, the most he could handle. Giron had Shelton almost beat with a double-break advantage in the second set. However, Shelton came all the way back to win that match and the final. The semifinal against Shelton was Giron’s sixth match in Tokyo, which may have been a factor in tiring the American.
In the broader context, since September 21st, Giron has played 12 matches, which is a fair amount. However, his last match was played on October 20th. By the time Wednesday’s match starts, Giron will have had some days to recover from his efforts last week.
Humbert has not played a match since the Shanghai Masters on October 13th. He lost to Andrey Rublev in the quarters but earlier in the draw, Humbert eliminated three players, including Stefanos Tsitsipas. Humbert also had a couple of victories in Beijing, including one over Rublev in that tournament. Furthermore, Humbert took a set off of Daniil Medvedev in the Beijing draw. It speaks very well to his form, Humbert’s, that he is playing these Top Ten players in a tough manner.

Humbert vs Giron Prediction: Humbert wins
Bettors should be backing Humbert at -175 on the moneyline (bet365). Certainly, you can count on Humbert playing strongly in his own right. But there is also a chance that Giron doesn’t feel perfect following his six matches in Tokyo. If there was anything majorly wrong with him, then he simply wouldn’t be in the Basel draw. But there is a chance that he has the tiny kind of injuries that can slow a player down just a little. My recommendation is to go with Humbert to win straight-up.
