More than 300 British classic and sports cars are set to arrive on the Isle of Man for a four day motoring event.

The Isle of Man Festival of Motoring, which has been running for four years, will see a number of car displays and parade laps around the island until Monday.

This year’s theme is Best of British, with visiting cars including Bentleys, Rolls-Royces, Aston Martins, Jaguars, Panthers and Nobles.

Event organiser Bob Cole said the festival was “quite a spectacle” and also brought a positive economic spinoff to the island by attracting about 600 visitors.

The event was an opportunity for the public to see “these wonderful cars on the island”, he said.

While the cars will be on view at several static displays, there will be some road closures as the vehicles travel around the island where they can be seen in motion.

Thursday will see them gather at Peel Castle between 12:00 and 14:00 BST, followed by a closure of the Sloc from 09:30 to 16:00 BST on Friday to allow participants to complete laps of the road.

Another display of the cars will be held on Saturday on the Douglas Promenade, where they will be joined by about 50 classic Manx Cars between 11:00 and 15:30.

That event will also feature passenger rides to raise money for local charity Looky’s Aid.

On Sunday Glencrutchery Road will be closed to southbound traffic from the Greenfield Road junction to St Ninian’s traffic lights from 09:00 to 11:00 as the cars gather at the Grandstand ahead of a police escorted motorcade along the TT course to Ramsey, leaving at 10:00.

Additionally, the Mooragh Promenade, from Vollan Crescent to the junction of Premier Road, will be closed between 09:00 to16:30, and the Mountain Road will be closed from 12:00 to 17:00.
