I gave my front porch a spring refresh – it looked tired but now it’s shiny

A HOME decor lover wanted to revamp her tired-looking porch, so she took matters literally into her own hands.

She gave her property a little upgrade just in time for spring, and an important add-on was necessary to complete the DIY project.

Elena (@thishouse5000) is a fan of interior design and tackling renovation tasks on her own.

She showed how she elevated her front porch in a TikTok video using her two hands and a few heavy-duty power tools.

She was ready to revamp and fix her “tired-looking deck” because it was peeling and looked “simply awful.”

The DIY fan based the upgrade off of her own porch deck in 2020 and used herself as “inspo.”

It was “shining and beautiful” and she wanted to restore it to its former glory.

“Being your own inspo is such a flex,” a viewer commented under the video.

Elena first used a palm sander with 40-grit sandpaper on the wooden floor to refinish it lightly.

It’s the sandpaper with the strongest grit, so she made sure not to go “too heavy” and apply a lot of pressure, especially around the platform edges.

She strapped on some kneepads before she got down and dirty to stain the wooden panels.

Elena also wrote in a comment that the accessory she used for the manual labor was “life-changing.”

“You want to use an oil-based clear coat here. It’s going to protect against winter weather and also give you that warm rich color,” she advised.

She “generously” lathered her porch in it, let it sit for a day, and then followed up with a few touch-ups.

Just like a few years prior, her deck had a “beautiful” shine.

Elena admitted in a comment that she thought it could be done in an afternoon, but it actually took her several days to complete.

She’s not done yet and the next part of her DIY project is planting some flowers.

Many were fascinated by the task and admired her dedication.

“So beautiful! Love seeing people restore/take care of their wood furnishings,” a TikTok user said.
