From trousers and jackets to skirts and dresses, sequin fashion has become something of a trend during the Christmas season.
The high street has been awash with sparkles, with many major retailers offering their own sequin partywear for the festive and New Year season, such as River Island’s trending £45 Silver Sequin Midi Skirt and New Look’s £40 Pink Vanilla Black Sequin Faux Feather Hem Mini Dress.
Now, I understand that wearing sequins can be a bit like Marmite, you either hate it or love it. Personally, I am the latter, because if you can’t sparkle at Christmas, when can you?
For those who may want to indulge in the trend without going over the top, there are a few fashion items that will let you sparkle, while also remaining quite smart. One of the most popular options I have spotted is the £79 Tailored Sequin Single Breasted Blazer from Marks and Spencer.
The high street retailer has seriously been impressing me with its range of Christmas clothing this year, with its festive jumpers and pleated dresses being among my top choices. So, once I read that its blazer has been hailed as a “stunning for all occasions”, I immediately rushed to try it out.
Speaking of its trending blazer, M&S said: “Get party-ready in an instant with this sequin-embellished blazer. The statement-making, single-breasted design has a tailored fit for a flattering silhouette. A smart revere collar and a single-button fastening create a streamlined feel, while a full lining and added stretch make it extra comfy to wear. The piece is finished with two jet pockets.”
Since its website mentions that the blazer was still available in store, I headed out and was not surprised to find it on the first railing as you walk into the store. While it may not have been styled on the mannequin, which featured the snazzy Sequin Relaxed Bomber, the blazer was easy to spot in the retailer’s partywear section.
I ended up snapping up a medium size 12 in the silver colour of the blazer, although it is also available in black and blue. I did debate going full on disco ball with the matching trousers, but alas, they were not available in my size.
To create a simple winter outfit that you could wear during the day and evenings, I styled the blazer with the retailer’s simple £17.50 Ribbed Crew Neck Knitted Top and a pair of its stylish £39.50 Leather-Look Ankle Grazer Trousers.
As for the blazer itself, it was pretty much love at first sight. After popping on the top and trousers, I was immediately taken with how quickly this sequin-embellished blazer elevated the look from simple to glamorous, yet still stylish and smart.
It fit perfectly, with a nice drape that didn’t feel restrictive. I was also super happy to find that it was fully lined, which didn’t just prevent any of that dreaded sequin rash, but also made it a little bit weighty. Since it is a little thicker than I expected, it will still add a layer of warmth this winter.
And, if you aren’t keen on the fabric of the leather trousers that I styled this look with, then fear not, as you could pair this blazer with a variety of different bottoms, such as a nice pair of slimming jeans. You could even opt for a nice blouse on the top, such as this £39 Texture Tie neck Blouse to keep looking a bit more smart.
I am not the only person to be impressed with the £79 Tailored Sequin Single Breasted Blazer, as it currently has a 4.7 rating and numerous glowing reviews from fellow fashionista’s who say that it makes them “feel a million dollars.”

One person hailed: “Fabulous – feel a million dollars! Absolutely love it! Great fit, lovely colour and looks really classy dressed up or down with just jeans.”
A second gushed: “Stunning jacket. Eye catching sequined fabric in blue which dosent catch like others I have had.”
While a third penned: “What a stunner! Ive had SO many compliments! Well lined to add comfort and warmth to a bitterly cold winter’s night. Definitely a good buy!”
Now that I have given the blazer a bit off a whirl myself, I found myself agreeing with my fellow shoppers. This sequin-embellished blazer is ideal for anyone who wants to add a touch of sparkle and “wow factor” to their winter wardrobe.
I’ll admit that it is fairly pricey, which did deter me from parting with my cash right now, but it is certainly a versatile piece that will elevate any casual outfit you are choosing to wear, whether you are heaing out for brunch with the girls or heading to the Christmas markets.
If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative to the £79 Tailored Sequin Single Breasted Blazer, another really good option that I have spotted is this similar Womens Cream Sparkle Sequin Blazer, which is priced at £22 from Peacocks.
