IKEA Just Shared Tips to Turn Your Home Into a Swedish-Themed Spring Sanctuary

When the seasons change outside, it’s natural to feel inspired to change your space inside too. Your life is different when the snow stops falling and the sun starts shining a bit brighter: Maybe you no longer need such a thick duvet or those flannel sheets; perhaps your soup pot gets a bit less use; or maybe you just need to update the colors inside your home to match the vibrancy of the outdoors.

In a timely fashion, IKEA just dropped a tool that aims to redefine the way we decorate for spring—or at least the ease with which we do it.

The furniture retailer launched The Edit, a follow-up to its recently-debuted IKEA Style Guide, and its first edition—Swedish Roots—is all about bringing the spring season indoors through natural tones, blonde woods, primary colors, and outdoorsy greens. As always, you want to keep your space clutter-free (especially in the spirit of spring cleaning) while also adding in some fun, style, brightness, and accent colors to make the trek from inside to outside seamless.

“Think of your home as a seasonal reflection of who you are,” Abbey Stark, an interior design leader at IKEA, said in a blog post. “Spring is a time for rejuvenation and renewal, so try something new. Don’t be afraid to take risks, like welcoming textiles in bolder patterns and brighter colors than usual.”

Swedish Roots intends to provide what you need for your outdoor space now that you have the time and ability to host, entertain, and (most importantly) lounge. But even if your outdoor space is ready for anything, your indoor space also needs to be. With some IKEA pieces, you can do both at once: mixing textiles that lean more natural, a color palette that matches the spring hues outside, and accessories that help you bring your vision to life without breaking the budget.

The $18 NÄBBFISK Table Cloth is made for styling seasonal dishes, featuring the herbs you gathered from your garden, whether you’re dining indoors or al fresco. The $18 SOLVINDEN LED Table Lamp is lightweight and rechargeable, so you can bring it from your patio area right to your kitchen counter when the weather gets a bit frigid or the bugs come out. The $60 BRÖGGAN Rug has fun, fresh, and playful dots and, once again, can be used both inside or outside. And with its soft pine woods, the $310 IVAR Shelving Unit magically makes any room feel connected to nature.

IKEA has a few recommendations for making sure you get the most out of making your seasonal. Experts suggest: introducing new rituals, like eating seasonal foods more often; switching to lighter curtains and layers; adding more outdoor lighting with string lights and table lamps; implementing pops of colors in your cushion covers and patterned designs; indulging in happy plants; and giving yourself and your space exactly what you crave.
