Illini Community Hospital hosting no-cost food distribution Saturday

PITTSFIELD, Ill. (WGEM) – Hospital officials are working to meet a community assessment in Pike County by helping residents eat healthily.

Illini Community Hospital will host a food distribution at the Pike-Scott Farm Bureau at 1301 Washington St. on Saturday.

If you are a Pike County resident you can pick up your box which will contain plenty of protein such as milk, eggs, and meat, all for free. You just need to make sure you get there before they run out.

“We’ll have chicken, ground turkey, and salmon,” said Jennifer Mowen with the Illini. Community Hospital. “So, a lot of things to get families ready for the approaching Easter holiday. And, make sure that we have everyone fed and able to have some high-quality foods in their diet.”

Mowen said they plan to serve about 200 families.

“We want to make sure we’re addressing food deserts in our county,” Mowen said. “And, make sure everyone is fed with a healthy diet. We’ll want to be sure that we provide this no-cost food distribution to our community.”

The giveaway will start at 9 a.m. on Saturday and go until the food runs out. The only requirement is that you are a Pike County resident.
