I’m a Celebrity, day 13 review: Rats! Another blow to Nigel Farage’s ego

Boxer Tony Bellew lost patience with Farage fumbling with padlocks, exhorting: “Nigel, please, come on mate! I’ve got a snake licking my arse.” Farage didn’t unlock any stars but once again, his campmates picked up the slack and claimed six between them, ensuring everyone’s bellies were at least half full. Farage said pre-trial that success was “a must” and his biggest fear was “failure”. Awkward. Even nice-guy Hollyoaks actor Nick Pickard sarcastically nicknamed him “the locksmith”.

A further blow to Farage’s ego came when campmates elected a new leader, due to too many rule-breaks on Thompson’s watch. While they waited to vote, Farage told This Morning’s Josie Gibson to “shut up”. She looked shocked until she realised he was trying to avert another transgression by her discussing the secret ballot. When Farage went to cast his vote, EastEnders actress Danielle Harold called: “Vote well and wisely, Nige. It’s not Brexit.” “Funny,” muttered Farage. “What a circus.”

Farage earned just one vote, while Rose won three. His nemesis was duly elected, picking Harold as her deputy. “It’s been a man’s world for too long,” said a gleeful Gibson. Now the women were taking back control, to coin a certain political slogan.

When the ruling pair reassigned chores, they put Farage and Fred Sirieix on washing-up duty. As Harold reasoned: “They like it clean, they may as well do it themselves.” “You guys like to pick up things that people have cleaned, throw them on the muddy floor and tell them to wash it again,” added Rose. “Roles reversed. It’s karma.” Farage phlegmatically insisted he was “Happy with that”.

Sirieix looked a lot less pleased, grumbling “Unbelievable.” He proceeded to be a backseat chef, like a controlling dad at his son-in-law’s barbecue. He even deployed the dread phrase “Health and safety”. The increasingly uptight Frenchman could be micro-managing himself into an early exit.
