In an Unexpected Appearance, Prince William Serves Hamburgers from a Food Truck

This weekend, Prince William worked on a food truck. While he served burgers, he told customers that he would come up with a new way to deal with climate change. The prince was trying to get the word out about his Earthshot Prize by working with some goods that had just won the prize. Customers were shocked to get their “Earthshot Burger” from none other than the Prince of Wales.

In the beginning of a video of Prince William on the food truck, he shows off three products that have won the Earthshot Prize in the past: produce from a “greenhouse in a box,” a stove that burns cleanly and saves energy, and food packaging that breaks down over time. The prince gave these items to the Sorted Food YouTube account, and they used them to make a sustainable burger made from plants. The prince then helped them sell these burgers from a food truck while talking to people about the Earthshot Prize.

The prince joked with the Sorted Foods team, “I don’t know if you guys have heard about the Earthshot Prize, but it’s an initiative I started about two years ago now although it’s been about four years in the making — I had hair when it started. It’s designed as an environmental prize tackling the world’s greatest environmental problems.”

Sorted Foods’ Jamie took an order from a group of people in the food truck. They said, “an we have four Eartshot Burgers please, chef?” As he said, “Coming right up,” the prince briefly came into view, and the customers were clearly shocked. The prince himself gave them their burgers and talked to them about his work to protect the earth.

The Earthshot Prize has already brought attention to and money for some amazing new ideas, and it has offered a cleaner future for the world. It has also opened up huge chances for inventors who might have had trouble finding a place in markets that were already full. For example, the “greenhouse in a box” used in this movie was made by a small company in India called Kheyti. Its main goal is to protect small-scale farmers around the world. Charlot Magayi made the Mukuru Stove to help clean up the air in Kenya. The biodegradable packing comes from a small London-based start-up company called Notpla.

The next Earthshot Prize awards event will be on November 7 in Singapore. People from all over the world will be there.
