Indian Creek girls basketball wins sectional opener

Indian Creek had a difficult time with Brown County in the regular season. Wednesday’s rematch proved to be a much smoother ride.

Faith Wiseman totaled 28 points, 24 rebounds, six assists and six blocked shots as the Class 3A No. 6 Braves coasted to a 75-45 victory in the first round of the Class 3A Owen Valley Sectional. Creek (19-4) will face Northview in a semifinal game on Friday.

Lauren Foster added 12 points and 10 assists for the Braves, who had previously labored their way to a 54-47 road win over the Eagles on Jan. 6. In that game, Indian Creek lost starting guard Ayla Lollar and defensive stopper Bre Gault to injury in the process.

Neither played on Wednesday — Gault is out for the season, while Lollar could potentially return later in the tournament — but their presence wasn’t necessary in this one. The Braves led 39-18 at halftime and were up 60-33 after three.

Lexi Sichting matched Foster’s 12 points and added six rebounds, while Jasmine Day contributed eight points and six assists.
