An argument after a trip to the liquor store and name calling ended with an Indianapolis woman shot in the head, court documents state, and her alleged attacker passing out in the car beside her before police arrived to arrest him.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched Monday evening to the 3100 block of Osceoloa Lane where they found two people inside a vehicle — one of them unconscious, and the other dead.
Police gave several loud commands, records state, for the man seated in the driver’s seat to exit the vehicle. He was later identified as Rodregus Morgan, 61, and police could detect the odor of alcohol on his breath, according to probable cause affidavit for his arrest.
Officers looked inside the vehicle, a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis, to find a woman dead in the passenger seat. She had a small bottle of alcohol, records state, still in her hands.

On Tuesday, the Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Tracy Harmon, 45, and ruled her death an apparent homicide.
A witness at the scene spoke with investigators and said they had spent most of that day with Morgan, and for most of that time Morgan had been arguing with Harmon, records state. Investigators learned Morgan had fathered children with Harmon and the pair had visited a north side liquor store earlier on W. 21st Street.
The witness said he got into the front passenger seat of Morgan’s car with Harmon in the back, according to records, but decided not to ride with Morgan after seeing a firearm in the vehicle. Harmon got out of the back seat and sat in the front, then asked Morgan to take her back to W. 21st Street, which Morgan refused to do.
Detectives were told Morgan and Harmon began to argue in the car, and at one point, the affidavit stated, Harmon called Morgan a derogatory name and insulted him.
The witness said Morgan reached for his gun and told the witness twice to get out of the way. The witness turned to leave, records state, and then heard a single gunshot.
Morgan just sat there, the witness told police, and never got out of the vehicle.
When investigators questioned Morgan, they noted he appeared intoxicated. Morgan insisted to police he had no recollection of what happened, and at one point told detectives Harmon “grabbed the gun and did it to herself.”
Morgan remains in jail as of Tuesday evening. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision.
