NBCUniversal-owned cablenet E! recently began airing new reality TV competition show House of Villains, pitting contestants from other series against one another in a series of challenges.

The show comes from Los Angeles-based Irwin Entertainment, maker of a series including Celebrity Rehab for VH1 and a string of stand-up specials for NBC, Comedy Central, Netflix and more.

Founder and president John Irwin spoke to Clive Whittingham about the programme, plus the struggles facing US TV producers and how he thinks a glut of streamers and freeze on commissioning will play out.
