WASHINGTON (TND) — Israeli citizens are being encouraged to avoid worldwide travel as an increase in antisemitic attacks against Jewish people has been reported around the globe.
Israel’s National Security Council (NSC) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) called on the Israeli public Friday to exercise caution while abroad.
“In the past few weeks, since Operation ‘Swords of Iron’ began, the NSC and MFA have identified a significant rise in antisemitism and anti-Israel incitement, alongside life-threatening violent attacks on Israelis and Jews around the world,” the statement read.
Based on the magnitude of reported incidents, the NSC has recommended Israelis reevaluate the necessity of foreign travel. The NSC also asks Israelis to review its “recommended conduct for Israelis abroad.”
This includes:
- Postponing travel to countries for which travel warnings have been issued, and especially Arab and Middle Eastern countries, the North Caucasus and countries bordering Iran.
- Checking whether there have been anti-Israel protests and violence at your destination, including countries for which no travel warnings have been issued.
- Avoiding openly displaying Israeli and Jewish symbols and features.
- Having on hand the phone numbers for emergency services (security and medical) and the Israeli embassy, if there is one.
- Staying away from protests and demonstrations.
- Remaining alert while abroad and being aware of things happening around you.
- Refraining from discussing your service in the Israeli security forces, including your IDF service, with strangers.
The agencies report that antisemitic incidents are even happening in countries where no terrorism-related travel warnings have been issued.
The areas they describe as “key targets” for protests and attacks by antisemitic groups include Jewish communities, religious and community establishments (synagogues, Chabad center, kosher restaurants and Israeli businesses), Israel delegations and airports with flights to and from Israel.
