ISU men’s tennis breaks into win column with sweep of Marquette

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — After starting the spring season with three consecutive losses, Illinois State men’s tennis picked up a 7-0 win over on the road Sunday at Marquette .

“I couldn’t be happier with the win today,” ISU head coach Mark Klysner said in a release. “We played some great doubles and that momentum carried us through the singles. I was most impressed with the way we handled the big points and we carried ourselves like pros out there. That is something we have been working on a lot.”

The Redbirds’ No. 2 duo of Arvid Hjalte and Tom Bevan won 6-3 over the Golden Eagles’ Jan Jauch and Jasper Schaadt. Caden Scarlett and and Tomas Valencia would follow with another 6-3 win at No. 3, securing the doubles point for the Redbirds.

A collective effort from the Redbirds in singles brought the score to 7-0. Nam Pham, Hjalte, Valencia, Scarlett, Emiliano Gonzales and Tin Ostro all collected wins.
