Continuing a strong start to the dual-meet season, Illinois State women’s tennis swept Eastern Illinois on Friday at Evergreen Racquet Club — taking each singles match in straight sets.
The Redbirds’ No. 3 duo of Zoe Limparis and Nuria Sanz opened the meet with a 6-1 win. Nevena Kolarevic and Silvia Pomarolli secured the doubles point for ISU with a victory at No. 2 by the same score.
Tijana Zlatanovic and Lana Caculovic finished off a sweep of the doubles contest with a 7-5 win in the top flight.
Zlatanovic, looking for a second straight Missouri Valley Conference Singles Player of the Week award, won 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles spot.
Caculovic had the match-clinching win in the second flight, putting the Redbirds up 4-0. Caculovic took her match 6-3, 6-0.
At No. 3, Kolarevic defeated EIU’s Charleigh Fay 6-4, 6-1. Pomarolli picked up a win at No. 4 by beating Jemma Booth 6-2, 6-3.
In a tight first set, Sanz beat Michelle Kostadinova 7-6 with a 7-4 tiebreak before taking the second set 6-2. Sofia Rodrigo went 6-3, 6-4 in her straight-set victory at No. 6.
