MACOMB, Ill. — Illinois State women’s tennis opened the spring season with a 6-1 win over Western Illinois on Saturday.
In singles play, Zlatanovic won at the No. 1 position in a third-set tiebreaker. ISU won three consecutive sets from Caculovic, Pomarolli and Sanz. The Redbirds dominated in singles by winning five of the six matches against WIU.
“We handled the nerves that come with a season opener very well,” ISU head coach Maja Kovacek said. “I’m proud of the team and the work they have been putting in at practice and it’s great to see those improvements in matches.”
