SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Ivy Tech’s Automotive Technology program gives students a chance to put the pedal to the metal, getting hands-on experience in the school’s very own auto shop.

A student in the program, Jacob Escobedo says, “right away you get to learning. You’re hands on. I can change oil, do brakes, change a tire, like I learned a lot here.”

Students tackle everything from changing tires to diagnosing engine troubles, all under the hood of experienced instructors, like Automotive Lab Tech, Christopher Miller.

Miller says, “from engine repair engine fundamentals, transmission, brakes, steering and suspension, air conditioning, all eight areas of the ASE certifications we cover right here at the Ivy Tech campus.”

Students drive their passion from Ivy Tech into the workforce, easily landing jobs at local auto repair shops, addressing the demand for auto technicians here in our community.

Miller says, “because of the shortages, a lot of the program that we have here…actually catapults them into Jeep and dodge dealerships just because, that training that the dealership would actually pay for them to attend, they’re already getting…so they have a leg up just coming out of out of your tech at those dealerships.”

From classroom to career, with enthusiasm fueling their journey to graduation, students leave Ivy Tech ready for success in the automotive industry.

Miller says the automotive program has been growing at the school. If you’re interested in learning more or possibly enrolling, visit Ivy Tech’s website.
