James Taylor Gets Sick, Delays Tour Dates

James Taylor is sick, so several concerts must be canceled. The 75-year-old winner of six Grammy Awards has been told by his doctor to stop singing because he has “a severe case of laryngitis.” Monday’s news about his health also said that his June 21 show at the Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati and two other stops in Huntsville, Alabama, and Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, would be postponed.

“I really hate to have to postpone these shows, and it’s not something I take lightly,” Taylor said in a statement he posted on his social media Monday night. “I thought I could push through, but I’m at the point now if I don’t take these days off, I risk doing permanent damage.”

Taylor couldn’t do three of the shows he had planned because he had to rest his voice. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer was supposed to play on June 21 at Cincinnati’s Riverbend Music Center, but the show has been changed to August 24. The new dates for his shows in Huntsville, Alabama, and Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, are Tuesday, August 22, and Saturday, August 26.

The Monday announcement confirmed that tickets for the three shows that had to be moved will still be valid for the new times. But anyone who can’t go to the rescheduled shows can get their money back. If you have questions about the delay, you should talk to your point of purchase.

Fans have sent Taylor well wishes and hopes for a quick recovery as he rests and gets ready to go back on stage. One person responded to the musician’s news on Instagram by writing, “Your health takes first priority! We would rather have you healthy and happy than sick and done performing. Rest up!”

Someone else said, “Take good care of yourself, James. No one wants to do anything that may compromise your voice. I hope you feel better soon.”

Taylor has not said anything new about his health at this time. His 2023 tour will start again on Saturday, June 24, at Summerfest at American Family Insurance Amphitheater in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The tour will take him to Bridgeport, Connecticut; Bethel Woods, New York; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Boston, Massachusetts; and several other places before ending with a show at Wolftrap in Vienne, Virginia, on Sunday, September 10.
