Jan. 30 high school girls basketball roundup: Potomac holds off Woodbridge


POTOMAC 50, WOODBRIDGE 48: Taylor Allen was the Panthers’ top scorer Tuesday with 15 points in the Cardinal District win on the road.

Allen scored 12 of her points in the second half for Potomac (7-1, 9-7).

Miya Semenuk added 10 points, including eight in the fourth quarter. Emmanuella Ofosu-Mensah also had 10 points.

For Woodbridge (4-5, 9-10), Gabby Jackson had 11 points and Elawanie Wilkins, Audrina Johnson and Nija Phillips-Rood 10.

Samia Snead hits clutch free throws as Osbourn Park clinches seventh straight district title

Just a sophomore, Samia Snead finds herself in an unfamiliar spot as a leader on the Osbourn Park girls basketball team.

FREEDOM-WOODBRIDGE 49, FOREST PARK 16: Keilani Johnson totaled 14 points, six rebounds, two steals, four assists and one block for the Eagles (8-1, 11-7) in the Cardinal District win.

COLGAN 70, GAR-FIELD 29: Nadia Grant scored 18 points and Brianna Long 16 as the Sharks (7-1, 10-8) won on the road.

Colgan led 32-16 at halftime and converted eight 3-pointers for the game.

BATTLEFIELD 45, FREEDOM-SOUTH RIDING 37: Madison Huynh scored 11 points and Lauren Wolf nine as the Bobcats improved to 15-6 overall and 7-4 in the Cedar Run District.

OSBOURN 46, ROCK RIDGE 43: Irieanna Smoot-Johnson scored 26 points and Angel Boateng 15 for Osbourn (6-12) in the non-district victory.

SETON 50, MILLER SCHOOL 42: In a matchup between two teams ranked in the top eight of the latest VISAA Division II state poll, Jackie Hugo and Lucy Pennefather each scored 15 points as visiting and No. 5 Seton (13-3) won its eighth straight with a win over No. 8 Miller.

Seton led 26-19 at halftime.

MERIDIAN 61, BRENTSVILLE 56 ((OT): Brooke Lynn Miller led the host Tigers (4-3, 12-6) with 26 points and Payton Brown added 16 in the Class 3 Northwestern District loss.

Meridian was up 33-26 at halftime.

ST. GERTRUDE 60, JOHN PAUL THE GREAT 49: Nina Velandria and Saleema Tinner each had 20 points for John Paul (8-10).

Velandria converted six 3-pointers.
