Jefferson City elementary schoolers showcase over 800 pieces of artwork

JEFFERSON CITY − Families saw splashes of color as their kids showed off their artwork at Elementary Visual Arts Day at the Capital West Event Center.

Saturday was the inaugural celebration of the event. Event organizers said this was a collaborative effort from all 11 Jefferson City School District elementary schools.

Over 800 pieces of artwork were on display for families all over the district to see.

Rick Rother, lead art teacher for Jefferson City School District, said this was all about exposing kids to see different styles of art in their area.

“Many students were really excited to show their artwork to their parents — especially in a wider, broader display,” Rother said. “Lots of enthusiasm from the parents to just see their student’s artwork portrayed in more of a gallery setting and not just in the classroom.”

Jefferson City School District students Brayleigh Miller and Freya Diggs expressed great appreciation to show off their work in a new and bigger way.

“The best part was to come here and see my art on display for everyone to see,” Brayleigh said.

“You work hard on it, and it’s creative stuff,” Freya said.

Rother said he was pleased with the event’s turnout and that the district plans to make the event annual.
